Daal Fry or Daal Tadka
Daal Tadka is a simple yet satisfying Indian lentil dish, rich in proteins and completely plant-based. Its preparation involves no oil, making it a healthier option.

In Instant Pot
- 1 cup mung dal yellow lentils
- 1/2 Tablespoon Ginger finely diced
- 1/2 Tablespoon or 1 Jalapeno finely diced (optional) or use 1/4 Green bell pepper, diced
- 1/2 Tablespoon Cumin seeds dry roasted
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper powder
- 1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 3 cups water + 1 cup warm or hot water to speed up cooking time
Greens
- 2 cups greens chopped
- 1 Tablespoon cilantro chopped
- 1 lime or lemon juiced
Method
Add all ingredients except greens to Instant pot and cook at high pressure for 2 mins. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes and release pressure.
Add chopped greens, cilantro and lime juice.
Add the 1 cup hot water. Allow to cook for 5 minutes.
Serve hot over rice.
Enjoy this daal (the equivalent of Chicken noodle soup in India)! Also an Ayurvedic staple!
Serve by itself as soup or over cooked grains like brown rice, millet, quinoa etc.
