Notes

No sugar                                                       No jaggery                   Only dry fruits!!!
Rice flour shell:
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups rice flour
For the Dry Fruits Stuffing:
  • 1/2 cup nuts each of almonds, cashew & pista
  • 1 1/2 TBS sesame seed da, roasted
  • 1 1/2 TBS poppy seeds, roasted
  • 10-12 Large Mejdool Dates
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 tsp cardamom, powder
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg, powder
Procedure:
  1. Bring water to a rolling boil
  2. Add rice flour
  3. Mix with the back of a wooden spatula
  4. It will still look dry and crumbly
  5. Cover and set aside for 10 mins
  6. Knead it for 1-2 mins well
  7. Make into small balls
  8. Use rice flour to roll into thin round shapes
  9. Make modak shape by pinching in 6-8 spots
  10. Fill in dry fruit filling
  11. Close the top of modaks
  12. Steam modaks for 10 mins
  13. Decorate with saffron strands
